What sort of ideas are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in tools that could help business owners, self-employed people, freelancers and office workers:
- Save time on repetitive or awkward tasks.
- Solve problems that existing software handles badly.
- Make everyday paperwork clearer and easier.
- Reduce unnecessary administration.
- Find or win more customers.
- Improve quotations, invoices, documents or customer communication.
- Make more money or avoid unnecessary costs.
- Turn a complicated job into a simple step-by-step process.
Tell us about the problem, not just the tool
You do not need to design anything. A description of the problem is often more useful than a detailed technical plan.
For example, you might tell us about a task you repeatedly put off, software that is too expensive or complicated, or a job that still involves copying the same information between several documents.
It also helps to explain who would use the tool and what a successful result would look like.
What should you include?
A short message is perfectly acceptable. Where possible, please include:
- The task or problem you would like the tool to address.
- Who would be most likely to use it.
- How the task is handled at present.
- What makes the current method slow, difficult or expensive.
- Any important features or results the tool would need.
The idea does not have to be complicated
Some of the most useful business tools do one modest job particularly well. A suggestion does not need artificial intelligence, complicated accounts or dozens of settings to be worthwhile.
A simple tool that saves ten minutes every week could be far more valuable than a large application filled with features nobody uses.
Do not worry if something similar already exists. Existing tools may be expensive, confusing, outdated or poorly suited for small businesses. There may still be room to create something better and easier to use.
